Quick Cable Beret

This is a beret that I worked up last week. I used one skein of Vanna's Choice yarn and an I hook. It took me about 2 hours. You are free to do anything you want with any hat you make but the pattern and photo are mine please don't copy them.

Quick Cable Beret 
This is the first pattern I have written down so I hope it is clear to everyone. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if something isn’t clear or if you have any questions.

Yarn: Vanna's Choice

Hook: I

Size: diameter – 10 inches

Stitches: chain (ch), slip stitch (slst) Double crochet (dc), front post double crochet (FPdc),  double crochet together(dc2tog), single crochet together(sc2tog)

Ch 2 @ beginning of row do not count as 1st stitch. On the rows where there are FPdc, I do the increase in the same stitch as the FPdc, working behind the FPdc.


Chain 5, join with slipstitch

Row1: ch2, 8 dc in ring. Join with slst in top of 1st dc.

Row 2: ch 2,2 dc in each st, Join with slst in top of 1st dc. (16dc)

Row 3: ch 2, 2dc in each st. Join with slst in top of 1st dc. (32dc)

Row 4: ch2, (dc, 2dc in next st) 16 times. Join with slst in top of 1st dc (48dc)

Row 5: ch2, (FPdc, dc in same stitch as FPdc, dc in next 2stitchs) 16 times. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16 FPdc with 3 dc between them).

Row 6: ch 2, (FPdc, dc in same stitch as FPdc, dc in next 3 stitches) 16 times. Join with slst in top of FPdc. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16 FPdc with 4 dc between them).

Row 7: ch 2, FPdc, dc in next 4 stitches. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16 FPdc with 4 dc between them).

Row 8: ch 2, (FPdc, dc in same stitch as FPdc, dc in next 4 stitches) 16 times. Join with slst in top of FPdc. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16 FPdc with 5 dc between them).

Row 9: ch 2, FPdc, dc in next 5 stitches. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16 FPdc with 5 dc between them).

Row 10: ch 2, (FPdc, dc in same stitch as FPdc, dc in next 5 stitches) 16 times. Join with slst in top of FPdc. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16 FPdc with 6 dc between them).

Row 11-12: Row 9: ch 2, FPdc, dc in next 6 stitches. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16 FPdc with 6 dc between them).

Row 13 : Ch2, (FPdc, dctog, dc in next 4dc) 16 times. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16FPdc, with 5dc between them)

Row 14: Ch2, (FPdc, dctog, dc in next 3dc) 16 times. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16FPdc, with 4dc between them)

Row 15: Ch2, (FPdc, dctog, dc in next 2dc) 16 times. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16FPdc, with 3dc between them)

Row 16: Ch2, (FPdc, dctog, dc in next dc) 16 times. Join with slst in top of FPdc. (16FPdc, with 2dc between them)

Row 17: ch 1, (sc2tog, sc in next 6 st), 6 times, ( 6 sets of 7 sts, 42 sts.)

Row 18-19: work even (42sc). Finish off, weave in end.

  1. Can this pattern be done using fingering weight yarn if the stitches are doubled? Please advise.

  3. Is there a mistake in round 10? Should there be 6 dc between the FPDC instead of 5?

  4. t.M. just now making this and the pattern is correct..the even rows are increase rows...also on odd rows at row 7..you don't fodc behind fodc.
